(X) Seal
BY THE GRACE OF GODIGNATI US YACOB II IPATRIARCH OF ANTIOCH AND ALL THE EAST
No 245/76 (x) seal lO-9-1976
God's grace and Apostolic blessings to our spiritual beloved children Mor Clemis Abraham Metropolitan, Corepiscopas, Vicars, Deacons and all the faithful sons of our Knanaya Church in Malankara.
May these blessings be through the prayers of our Holy Mother Mary and all the Saints of our Church.
Beloved spiritual Children,
Your great grand forefathers in the year of our Lord 345 according to the instruction of the Holy See of Antioch and under the efficient leadership of Bishop Joseph of Uraha and Thomas of Cana have migrated from Edessa to the Coasts of Malabar in India and settled down in Malankara establishing a separate Church. As our predecessors were very particular and your forefathers were highly desirous in preserving the purity of your Syrian blood, you remained and still remain as a Separate Community and Church and refrained from mingling with the native Christians of Malabar in the matter of intermarriage. We are, really happy that you have been hitherto loyal and faithful to the Holy See of Antioch and very careful in preserving your purity and maintaining your racial, social and cultural status and maintained the continued autonomous and independent status of your Church and its Constitution.
Taking into consideration the peculiar racial features and the time honored independence of your church and in response to the desire of the members of your Community expressed by them through your Association and Managing Committee, our predecessor Ignatius Abdedaloha II of Blessed memory was pleased to allow your Church to remain as an independent autonomous Diocese in Malankara with powers of self-administration. He was further pleased to ordain and appoint in the year of our Lord 1910, a person of your choice, Mar Severious Geevarghese of revered memory as your Metropolitan.
Later, in the year of our Lord 1926, our predecessor Mar Ignatius Elias III of blessed memory was pleased to ordain for your Diocese Mar Diascorous Thomma, a person of your choice, as your Metropolitan. During his visit to and stay at Malankara in the year of our Lord 1932, he had the good fortune to meet you all and appreciate the independent status of your church. He was pleased to issue His Apostolic Bull No. 42 dated 1932 Makaram 26, confirming the independence of your church in Malankara and proclaiming that your church shall for all times to come remain absolutely independent and autonomous under the administration of a Metropolitan nominated by your Association and ordained as such by the Holy Throne of Antioch. We are further happy to learn from the aforesaid Apostolic Bull No. 42 that the Knanaya Diocese in Malankara has the supreme right and freedom to get their Metropolitan ordained directly from the Holy See of Antioch alone and that such Metropolitans shall administer the spiritual, ecclesiastical and temporal affairs of the Diocese independently without deviating from the fundamentals of traditional faith, order and discipline.
We also had the good fortune to visit Malankara again after we assumed the Holy Throne of Antioch and to appreciate the remarkable achievements of your Community under the able guidance and efficient administration of our beloved Mar Clemis Abraham, your Metropolitan. We take this opportunity to remind you about our Apostolic Bull No. 370 of 1973 and No. 299 of 1975.
The Holy Synod of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church held in June 1975 has further decided that the Knanaya Diocese in Malankara should continue its independence as before and that your Metropolitans shall independently administer your Diocese subject to the supremacy of our Holy Throne of Antioch.
Your right, privilege and authority to remain independent as before with your Malankara Suriyani Knanaya Samudaya Constitution subject to the supremacy of our Holy See of Antioch alone, as envisaged in the Bulls 42/1932, 370/1973, 299/1975 and in the directions of the Holy Synod in 1975 and in your Constitution, is further recognized, approved and confirmed.
We further command that the Knanaya Diocese in Malankara is obliged to extend your affection and full cooperation to all ecclesiastical authorities and members of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian church owing allegiance to the Holy Throne of Antioch, at the same maintaining as before, the complete independence and separate status of your Church in Malankara. Whatever be the arrangements for the affairs of our Jacobite Malankara church, the Malankara Knanaya Community shall have full liberty and right to, administer its affairs according, to the, Malankara Suriyani Knanaya Samudaya Constitution which has the approval of the Holy Throne of Antioch
May God the all powerful Bless you all our spiritual children of the Syrian Knanaya Community in Malankara in all your actions and that through the accepted prayers of Saint Mary, mother of God and all the Saints ... Amen.
Our father which art in Heaven ... ... ... ... etc.
Syrian Patriarchate of Antioch And all the East. Damascus - Syria.
